The Sportiva might be that little car. It launched at the Turin show in 1965, based on recently launched Fiat 850 mechanicals, and might be one of the most deceptive styling jobs ever: There are no giveaways as to how big it might be, those brilliant Italian pillars the size of matchsticks, thin and wispy, but beautiful, delicate and streamlined, or even where the engine might be located. It is completely proportional to the rest of the body. And you wonder how you're going to squeeze in there.
Due to the aerodynamic profile, it was necessary to mount the spare wheel horizontally in It., occupying it entirely. Therefore the designers had to create a luggage compartment, made from a stiff cloth, between the seats and the engine space the Sportiva was Moretti’s last car that could be customized beyond the usual of choice of seat colors. There was the possibility to obtain trim and equipment levels of great prestige for the age according to the buyer’s taste. The Sportiva was initially proposed as a two seater Coupé although it became available as a Convertible .The basic price for the Moretti Sport in 1967 was 1.095.000 Liras which could increase with personalization to nearly two million Liras. Not many are around anymore records are scant, only a few hundred Sportivas were done over the course of a few years It is believed that fewer than two dozen are still existent, While a handful made it to the States in 1967.
The notion of a one-liter GT car made a certain amount of sense in Europe and is a flavor that far too few are able to savor. Soon to be offered for sale here on CollectorCars
